Sweet Potato Johnny is John Chabot. People who have been going to the St. Catharines Farmers' Market for a few years will remember that John started out selling Montreal-style bagels as Johnny's Fresh Bagels.
The bagels were delicious, but John got bored and carpal tunnel (kidding!) and wanted to try something new so he added some frozen soups and entrees to his menu. Over time more menu items got replaced by dishes containing sweet potato until everything had sweet potato in it and the bagels were history.
One day, Pam at the Itty Bitty Pie Company (best pies around!) referred to John as "Sweet Potato Johnny" and the name stuck.
And the rest of the story is delicious!
